Cabbie shoots passenger in attempted robbery

MANILA—A call center employee was shot in the face by a taxi driver Friday morning in Pasig City after she refused to hand over her personal belongings.

April Taclay, a human resource staffer at a call center in Quezon City, told police she was on her way home to Mandaluyong City when the still unidentified male taxi driver suddenly pointed a gun at her while they were traveling on Canley Road, Barangay Ilog in Pasig City.

Taclay, who boarded the Glowing Stone taxi on C-5 in Libis in Quezon City around 6 a.m., said the driver told her to give him her personal belongings but she refused.

SPO1 Edward Maylas said the driver, irritated that Taclay refused to do as he had ordered, shot her in the face.

Taclay managed to jump out of the car and landed on the street, where a motorist saw her and took her to Rizal Medical Center for treatment.

Maylas said the victim wasn’t able to get the license plate of the taxi, which fled in the direction of Shaw Boulevard. He said investigators were examining videos from closed-circuit television cameras installed at Hydrodynamic Construction Building to identify the car and the driver.
