Today, Dec. 5, is the 22nd death anniversary of National Artist for Music Felipe Padilla de Leon. Born on May 1, 1912, De Leon was a composer, conductor and scholar. His awards include the Presidential Award of Merit in 1961, the Republic Cultural Heritage Award and the Patnubay ng Sining at Kalinangan Award from the City of Manila in 1971, and the First Cultural Achievement Award from the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 1975.
