Cop, gun suspect killed in Nueva Ecija firefight
CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines—A police officer and a man suspected of harboring unlicensed weapons died in a shootout Thursday morning in San Isidro town in Nueva Ecija province.
PO3 Jacinto Gregorio Jr. was killed in the two-hour gunfight. Also slain was suspect Bernardo Magno, who allegedly resisted when the police team served a search warrant on a property in Purok 2, Barangay (village) Calaba where the suspect was allegedly hiding, according to the Central Luzon regional police office.
The gun battle ended at 7:45 a.m. with the death of Magno from multiple gunshot wounds.
The search warrant was issued by Judge Mildren Villaroman-Hernal of Gapan City for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
The Nueva Ecija police recovered an M-14 rifle, an M-16 armalite rifle, a shotgun, a .45 cal. pistol, assorted live ammunition, several empty shells and some drug paraphernalia at the crime scene.
