MANILA, Philippines—After four days in detention, the leader of the militant peasant group who led a rally outside President Benigno Aquino III’s private home in Quezon City walked out of jail Wednesday.
Antonio Flores, secretary general of Kilusang Mambubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP), was released at 4 p.m. after posting bail at P85,000.
Flores was charged with 13 counts of direct assault and vandalism in the sala of Judge Maria Gilda Loja-Pangilinan of Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 31. Flores, 66, said he was considering filing countercharges against the police. “We want a fair coverage and justice regarding what happened on Times Street.”
Seven protesters and 12 antiriot personnel were injured in the clash that broke out Nov. 29 after KMP members spray-painted the street with anti-Aquino slogans and threw stones at the police.
