MANILA, Philippines—Despite the exit of tropical storm “Queenie” (international name “Sinlaku”), there will be no let-up in heavy rains in the Visayas and Mindanao as another low-pressure area developed in the area on Friday.
Located about 480 kilometers east of General Santos City as of Friday night, the latest low-pressure area will bring moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms over Mindanao and Eastern and Central Visayas this weekend, the weather bureau warned.
Western Visayas and the Bicol regions as well as Palawan province will have light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms, while the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will have isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
Intensifying into a storm when it reached the West Philippine Sea after crossing northern Palawan during the day, Queenie exited the Philippine area of responsibility early Friday night as it headed toward Cambodia.
At about 400 km west-northwest of Puerto Princesa City before it exited Philippine territory Friday night, the cyclone was estimated to pack maximum winds of 65 km per hour near the center and gusts of up to 80 kph.
Pagasa said the storm exited the western border of the Philippine area of responsibility between 6 and 7 p.m. on Friday, and lifted the remaining public warning signal over Palawan province.
