ILOILO CITY, Philippines — Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog declared the suspension of afternoon classes in the elementary and secondary levels in both public and private schools in the city on Thursday.

Mabilog said that while water levels of rivers and creeks in the city were within normal level and all roads and bridges were passable, as of Thursday noon, tropical depression “Queenie” has been seen to gain strength in the afternoon.

Classes for the tertiary level may be suspended on the discretion of school administrators, according to an advisory released by the mayor.

Iloilo City is among the areas placed under Storm Signal No. 1.
