Did you know: 103rd birth anniversary of National Scientist Fe del Mundo

Today, Nov. 27, is the 103rd birth anniversary of National Scientist Fe del Mundo. Born in Intramuros, Manila in 1911, she was known as the “Grand Dame of Philippine Pediatrics” and was the first Filipino woman to be enrolled in pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. She was named National Scientist in 1980, the first woman to be honored with this award. Del Mundo was also the founder of the first pediatric hospital in the Philippines, the Children’s Medical Center. She died on Aug. 6, 2011. Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
