Chinese with P20M ‘shabu’ nabbed in QC

MANILA, Philippines—A Chinese national was arrested in Quezon City with five kilos of “shabu” (meth) worth P20 million hidden in plastic packagings for coffee during a sting operation on Friday.

Jiacheng Shi, also known as Joseph Sy, 33, of Fujian, China, was arrested by operatives of the Quezon City Police Anti-Illegal Drugs (QCPD-DAID) unit along Masaya street in Barangay Capitol site at 7:20 a.m. on Friday. Shi resides in Binondo, Manila.

QCPD-DAID head Senior Insp. Robert Razon said their poseur-buyer only ordered a kilo of shabu, worth P1.5 million. But after the deal was consummated and Shi was arrested, the police recovered four more kilos of shabu inside Shi’s car with license plate POA-949.

The packs of shabu, weighing a kilo each, were inside a sports bag at the car’s back seat.

All five-kilogram packs of shabu were in uniform green packagings, with a photo of a cup of coffee on the front.

QCPD director Senior Supt. Joel Pagdilao said all five packs had an estimated street value of P20 million.

As this developed, the leader of a criminal gang involved in illegal drugs and gun-for-hire activities was arrested after he was seen armed with a gun and roaming around a community in Caloocan City on Thursday.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group with the Caloocan City police apprehended Israel Nicolas Thursday afternoon after the suspect was reported to be causing a commotion in Isla San Juan, Barangay Maypajo. With a report by Julie M. Aurelio
