MANILA, Philippines – The Sandiganbayan on Thursday deferred the arraignment of Dr. Elenita Binay, the wife of Vice President Jejomar Binay, over her graft and malversation charges for the allegedly anomalous purchase of over P45-million worth of medical supplies and equipment when she was still the mayor of Makati City.
Mrs. Binay’s lawyer Juan Carlos Mendoza said they received the court’s resolution which junked their motion to stop the proceedings only on Monday.
Mendoza asked the court to defer the arraignment as they planned to file a motion for reconsideration on the court’s decision.

She only said that she stayed away from the public eye because she was busy “taking care of her grandchildren.”
The graft and malversation cases against Mrs. Binay stemmed from the alleged irregularities in the procurement of hospital beds worth P36.43 million for the Ospital ng Makati in 2001.
She was also indicted for alleged anomalies in the purchase of P8.83 million worth of dry heat sterilizers that same year.
