MANILA, Philippines—A man who was rushed to a Manila hospital after attempting to kill himself Thursday morning grabbed the gun of an assisting security guard and fired a shot before he was subdued by authorities.
Rene Maaya, 40, from Bacoor City, Cavite province, seized the service firearm of Jason Padua, 24, at the emergency room of the Ospital ng Maynila, according to a report by Radyo Inquirer 990 AM.
During the scuffle, Maaya got hold of the gun and fired a shot. He was eventually restrained by responding policemen. No one was reportedly hurt.
The man allegedly attempted to commit suicide earlier. He sustained cuts to his neck.
