MANILA, Philippines—A 62-year-old man is facing charges for allegedly plotting to kill the younger brother of Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista over a woman.
A day after his arrest, Wilfredo Valerio, a resident of Cubao, was subjected to inquest proceedings in the Quezon City prosecutor’s office on Wednesday based on a complaint by Hero Bautista and his friend Alden Tecson.
An official said Hero and Tecson sought police assistance after the driver of Valerio’s live-in partner “confessed” that Valerio had instructed him to look for a gunman who could be hired to kill both of them.
The driver Joseph Rene Batoon works for Rio April Santos, Hero’s former live-in partner, according to Chief Insp. Rodel Marcelo, head of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit.
Valerio was reportedly enraged that Tecson, who is Santos’ brother-in-law, was trying to get her and Hero back together, Marcelo said.
Batoon claimed that Valerio even told him that if he could not find a contract killer, Batoon could do the job himself at P50,000 for each kill, Marcelo said.
Hero and Tecson sued Valerio for grave threats.
