DZIQ: PPCRV favors ARMM elections in August—chairperson
MANILA, Philippines— The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) favors August elections in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), its chairperson, Henrietta de Villa, said in a Radyo Inquirer interview Tuesday.
“When I was in Comelec’s advisory council, I knew they already prepared as if the elections would be held on August 8,” De Villa said, adding that there was no need for postponement.
She said the ARMM’s stability was taken for granted because the government hasn’t decided whether to push through or postpone the elections. She said she did not understand why the elections should be postponed because the government hasn’t consulted them.
The election of the next set of officials for the ARMM is currently set for the first Monday of August 2011. But there is a pending bill in the Senate that seeks to synchronize the ARMM elections with the national polls. If passed, the ARMM elections will be held in May 2013, instead.
