American questioned for shipping human body parts
BANGKOK — Police say an American tourist visiting Thailand was questioned after a shipping company X-rayed his parcels and found they contained several preserved human parts, including an infant’s head, babies’ feet and heart.
Police Col. Chumpol Poompuang says the 31-year-old man told police he bought the body parts at an outdoor Bangkok market and was sending them to friends in Las Vegas because he thought they were “bizarre.”
Chumpol said the parts discovered Saturday night were preserved in formaldehyde and forensic experts said they were more than 10 years old.
He said Monday they were likely stolen from medical institutes, where such preservation technique can be performed.
The tourist was released without being charged.
In some Thai cults, fetuses or baby parts can be used to practice black magic.
