No tsunami threat in PH after Indonesian quake—Phivolcs

MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology assured the public that there was no tsunami threat to the Philippines after a magnitude 7.3 quake struck off an Indonesian island Saturday morning.

In a statement, Phivolcs said there is no “Pacific-wide destructive tsunami” after the massive earthquake struck 154 kilometers northwest of Kota Ternate at a depth of 47 kilometers.

Phivolcs said there were no unusual wave activities from the sea-level that the Davao tide gauge station recorded.
