Today, Nov. 13, is the 125th birth anniversary of physician, journalist and legislator Pedro Gil. He took up medicine at the University of Santo Tomas and established a clinic that became popular with the common folk in Paco and Ermita. Gil also published the newspaper “Los Obreros” which he dedicated to laborers. In 1927, Gil was elected to represent the southern district of Manila. He was later elected to the first National Assembly and became chair of the committee on city government. After his death on Jan. 5, 1965, Herran Street in Manila was renamed in his honor.
