Election officer shot dead in Sulu

COTABATO CITY – Unidentified gunmen have shot and killed an election officer in Sulu.

Governor Mujiv Hataman of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao identified the victim as Mergani Wahid, 42, the municipal election officer in the town of Tapul.

Hataman said Wahid was heading home from the school of his daughter on a motorcycle when he was attacked in Barangay (village) Kasulutan in Jolo, the provincial capital.

Wahid, he said, died from multiple gunshot wounds. A bystander was injured by a stray bullet.

Policemen are still investigating the motive and the identities of the gunmen, Hataman added.
