MANILA, Philippines—One of the two men arrested for stealing a parked motorcycle on Monday in Pasay turned out to be a member of the city’s police force.
PO1 Andrew Nicolas Pangan, who is assigned at the city’s Central Park Police Community Precinct, was apprehended the next day in his work place after the police tracked him through his police identification card.
He admitted his involvement in the crime and later identified his accomplice as Mark Edward Santos, a mechanic.
Miguel Vincent Roxas, a 22-year-old resident of Central Park Condominium on D. Jorge Street in Pasay City, reported the loss of his brand new Yamaha motorcycle from the parking lot around 8 p.m. on Monday.
He was told by the building’s security personnel that one of their guards had tried to stop two men from taking his motorcycle from the parking lot.
However, the guard relented when the 27-year-old Pangan claimed the vehicle was his and presented registration papers which later turned out to be fake. The policeman also showed his Philippine National Police identification card.
PO3 Melvin Garcia of the Pasay City police investigation division said that Pangan and Santos were positively identified using the video taken by the security guard as he was accosting them on Monday night.
When arrested at his house in Central Village, Taguig City, Pangan pointed to Santos in whose house the stolen motorcycle was found.
Both are now detained at the Pasay City police station and have been charged with vehicle theft.
