MANILA, Philippines—Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez on Tuesday announced his plan to build at least two school buildings in all barangays in the city in anticipation of what he said would be an increase in the number of students with the full implementation of the K-to-12 national program in 2016.
In a statement, Olivarez said he was hoping to construct at least one elementary and one high school building in each of the city’s 16 barangays before the K to 12 program goes full blast.
So far, an additional building for the Parañaque Science High School and another four-story building for the Sto. Niño National High School, both in Barangay Sto. Niño, were “already on the drawing board.”
“Our local school board estimates that, because of the K to 12 program’s full implementation, our public school student population will reach 140,000 in 2016…,” he said.
At present, Parañaque has 110,000 public school students ranging from kindergarten to high school. Before the start of the school year, four more school buildings were completed, bringing to 38 the number of public schools in the city.
These were Marcelo Green Elementary School, Don Bosco National High School, San Isidro Elementary School and Tambo National High School.
