Pasay City cop, mechanic arrested for theft of motorcycle

MANILA, Philippines—A Pasay City policeman and his accomplice were arrested on Tuesday for stealing the motorcycle of a resident of a condominium building on D. Jorge Street in the city.

PO1 Andrew Nicolas Pangan was arrested by a police team at the Central Park Police Community Precinct (PCP), his place of assignment, after he admitted his participation in the motorcycle theft which happened on Monday night.

Miguel Vincent Roxas, a 22-year-old resident of the Central Park Condominium told the authorities that he noticed his brand new Yamaha motorcycle missing from the parking space of his condominium building at around 8 p.m.

He later informed the building’s security officers who said that one of their guards tried to stop two men from getting a motorcycle from the parking area but since they were able to present documents showing ownership of the vehicle, the security person allowed them to leave.

The case investigator, PO3 Melvin Garcia, of the Pasay City police investigation division, said that Pangan and his cohort, mechanic Mark Edward Santos, were identified through the video footage taken by the security guard of the condominium the night the motorcycle was taken. Santos was later on arrested at his residence in Central Village, Taguig City, where the stolen motorcycle was also recovered.

Pangan was also identified as a police officer after he presented his identification card to the condominium’s security guard when he claimed that he was the owner of the motorcycle.

The policeman and Santos are now detained at the Pasay City Police Station and they have been charged for violating Republic Act No. 6539 or the Anti-Carnapping Act of 1972.
