MANILA, Philippines—Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Alan Purisima has tapped the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) to investigate who was behind the smear campaign against him.
On Monday, an ABS-CBN report revealed that Purisima purportedly co-owned a 10-hectare land in Talisay, Batangas with a retired Army colonel. The property was not declared in Purisima’s statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN) from 2010 up to present.

This came after a consumers group disclosed in October a 4-hectare “mansion” of Purisima in Nueva Ecija. He listed the house and lot on his SALN as worth P4 million.
Purisima, through his spokespersons, vehemently denied owning the Talisay land.
”We have to come up first with sufficient evidence as to who exposed this. From there, we would start assessing our legal options,” PNP spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wilben Mayor said.
“These are allegations that need to be proven first. The one who is asserting these claims has the burden of proof, not the person he is accusing,” Mayor added.
In the exclusive TV report, the Batangas town’s Register of Deeds found that Purisima and Oscarlito Mapalo, a retired military official, acquired the land in 2007 for only P2 million.
Amid the attacks against his superior, Mayor said the PNP leadership would continue doing their jobs.
