MANILA, Philippines — Senator Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada on Monday said he wants to have therapy on his left shoulder thrice a week even as he is detained for plunder over the pork barrel scam.
In an interview at the Sandiganbayan for his bail hearing from plunder, Estrada said this is also in connection with the results of his Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) that showed he has mild cervical spondylosis, commonly known as arthritis of the neck.
Estrada said they will file a motion for him to have therapy at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center three times a week.
“My doctor advised me to undergo therapy because it’s strenuous,” Estrada said.
The detained senator said he has limited movements because of his shoulder pains.
“I’m experiencing pain on my left shoulder. I actually cannot move it. I have very limited movements. Maybe therapy is the remedy,” Estrada said.
The court had granted Estrada’s earlier request to have an MRI.
Senators Estrada, Juan Ponce Enrile and Ramon Revilla Jr. face plunder and graft charges before the Sandiganbayan for their alleged involvement in the pork barrel scam, the alleged diversion of the senators’ Priority Development Assistance Funds (PDAF) to ghost projects for kickbacks under the scheme of accused mastermind and co-accused Janet Lim-Napoles.
Revilla and Estrada are detained at the PNP Custodial Center, while Napoles and Reyes are locked up at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-administered jail in Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig. Meanwhile, the 90-year-old Enrile is under hospital detention.
