MANILA, Philippines—A magnitude 5.5 earthquake rocked Surigao del Norte Monday afternoon, and aftershocks are expected to occur, the Philippine Institute for Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
The quake was recorded at 12:41 p.m. and its epicenter was identified at 101 kilometers northeast of General Luna town, Surigao del Norte province, according to the latest bulletin released by Phivolcs.
The tectonic tremor was felt at Intensity I in Surigao City.
Although aftershocks are possible, no damage to infrastructure was expected from the earthquake.
A 4.5-magnitude earthquake was also recorded in Cebu province Monday morning. The said quake was felt in the cities of Cebu, Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue and Bogo in Cebu province and Ormoc in Leyte province.
