Mother pleads for sick son
MANILA, Philippines–Peter John Laconsay’s congenital heart disease was discovered two years ago when he was already 15 years old.
“When we had him checked due to an incessant cough, doctors heard heart murmurs. He underwent 2D Echo twice at two different hospitals and the results confirmed our fears that there was a hole in his heart,” Annerie Laconsay, mother of the 17-year-old high school graduate, told the Inquirer.
Doctors at the Philippine Heart Center told the Laconsays who live in Camarin, Caloocan City, that cardiac catheterization was more advisable for Peter John rather than open heart surgery to repair the hole in his heart.
Cardiac catheterization is a procedure that involves the insertion of a thin flexible tube (catheter) into the groin, neck or arm until it reaches the heart. Used to diagnose and treat cardiovascular conditions, it costs P82,000.
Annerie said that as of now, they have no source of income since her husband Reynaldo has not been able to work. He recently resigned as a bank security guard due to arthritis. Her family has been dependent on her sister for their needs, she added.
