MANILA, Philippines— Malacañang has no time for politics.
Asked on the Palace’s reaction about Senator Alan Peter Cayetano’s statement that Vice President Jejomar Binay’s snubbing of Senate blue ribbon subcommittee hearings will make him a “bad president,” Communications Secretary Herminio “Sonny” Coloma Jr. said that the Aquino government has more important issues to address other than politics.
“The priority of the administration is to address important issues like facing the Ebola virus disease, to realize the goals of the Philippine Development Plan to achieve inclusive growth, to lessen poverty, and to optimize government’s frontline services. Politics is far from our minds and is not included in the priorities of the administration,” Coloma said over state-run Radyo ng Bayan on Sunday.
Cayetano on Friday said that Binay will be “worse” than former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
He said that Arroyo responded to issues against her and did not dismiss them as mere politics.
Binay was supposed to attend last Thursday’s hearing but chose to fly to Cebu instead to meet private and government leaders.
