MANILA, Philippines – The Metro Rail Transit (MRT) had to suspend its operations on Sunday morning after trash got caught in its electricity supply cables.

A passenger told INQUIRER.net that it was around 10:00 a.m. when their southbound train was stalled for at least 10 minutes at Cubao station.

Vince Borneo, who boarded the train at North Ave., said they were told that the trains can only reach Shaw Blvd. Station because someone threw trash at the overhead wires (near Magallanes station) supplying electricity to the MRT trains.

Operations were resumed several minutes later.

A radio report said MRT General Manager Renato San Jose had called on pedestrians on footbridges near the MRT not to throw trash to avoid such delays.

San Jose said they had to remove the trash, which could have caused a short circuit.
