NAGA CITY, Philippines—Police in Camarines Sur have launched an investigation into the death of a 13-year-old boy who was said to have died on Tuesday as a result of bullying by a classmate.
Insp. May Rena Martinez, spokesperson for the Camarines Sur police office, said on Thursday that investigators were still trying to determine if the boy’s death was a direct result of blows and punches that the victim took from a 12-year-old classmate in an elementary school in the town of Tinambac.
Martinez said the victim and the suspect were involved in a fist fight before the victim was reported dead by the town police on Tuesday.
Insp. Malu Calubaquib, spokesperson for the regional office of the Philippine National Police, said initial investigation conducted by the Tinambac police revealed that the victim was seen stumbling by the side of the road while leaving the school around 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
She said Tinambac police found the boy lying on the roadside. He was rushed to Tinambac Municipal Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Shiena M. Barrameda, Inquirer Southern Luzon
