2 soldiers killed in NPA ambush in Albay

LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines — Two soldiers were confirmed dead in an ambush in Daraga, Albay, by suspected New People’s Army rebels Monday morning, an Army official said.
Lieutenant Colonel Perfecto Peñaredondo, head of the 2nd Infantry Division of the Philippine Army, identified the victims as Private First Class Dario Maois and Private First Class Jerome Sambrona, both members of the Charlie Company.
Senior Superintendent Marlo Meneses, Albay police chief, said the ambush happened at 7:30 a.m. in Purok 5, Barangay (village) Anislag, Daraga, as the two soldiers were on their way to the market on board their motorcycle.
Lawmen recovered empty shells of an M16 rifle and a plastic sack, biscuits and gallons of water on a grassy portion, 50 meters away from the ambush site.
