MANILA, Philippines – The date and the venue of the debate between Vice President Jejomar Binay and Senator Antonio Trillanes IV may not be final yet but it will push through within the month, the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) said on Monday.
KBP President Herman Basbaño told Radyo Inquirer 990AM that while November 10 was considered, it was scrapped because of a conflict in schedule.
“We’re looking at a later date, within the month of November,” he said in Filipino.
Basbaño revealed that they were about to embark on the third round of talks to make the two camps agree.
“We just have to be patient because we have to agree with both camps,” he said.
Binay challenged Trillanes to a debate more than a week ago amid the Senate blue ribbon subcommittee’s hearings on the allegedly overpriced Makati City Hall parking building.
“At this time we cannot divulge the details of the negotiations,” the KBP president said.
However, he said, they are already looking at two other dates and have inspected possible venue. In addition to the Philippine International Convention Center, they are also considering holding it at a hotel.
It will be a “historic debate,” Basbaño said it.
All media networks will be allowed to cover the event but they will be asked to follow the regulations that will be released by the KBP.
Basbaño also assured that they will get an impartial moderator, to be approved by both camps.
