Police kill 4 alleged robbers in Malolos City shootout
MALOLOS, Philippines—Police killed four alleged robbers in what they claimed was a shootout with armed men cornered on a flyover while fleeing from the vicinity of a bank after aborting an alleged plan to rob it because of an approaching police car.
A police officer and a bystander were wounded in the exchange of gunfire at 9:30 a.m. on the Malolos Crossing flyover in Barangay Guinhawa.
The armed men were fleeing in a Toyota Vios sedan (with plate numbers TQK-562) after allegedly abandoning a plan to rob the Palayan sa Nayon Cooperative in the Ligas area, said Supt. Arwin Tadeo, Malolos City police chief.
Tadeo said the armed group apparently saw a police vehicle in the vicinity, which gave chase when the group drove off.
The armed group opened fire when it was cornered by the police mobile team and police officers manning an outpost on the bridge, which is some three kilometers from the cooperative bank, he said.
The slain men had yet to be identified.
