Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecasters said that while the low pressure area (LPA) will have no immediate effect after it enters the PAR on Friday, the weather disturbance is expected to intensify into a tropical depression before making landfall on Monday.
Forecaster Gladys Saludes said Bicol as well as Central and Eastern Visayas will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms on Friday and on All Saints’ Day.
Saludes said the LPA, to be named “Paeng” once it develops into a cyclone, is expected to be felt on Sunday in Southern Luzon, particularly in Bicol, Aurora and Quezon, and in Eastern Visayas.
Metro Manila, the rest of Calabarzon and Central Luzon will have light to moderate rains.
According to Saludes, moderate to occasionally heavy rains are anticipated in the areas as the weather disturbance by Sunday would be inching closer to the eastern sections of Central and Southern Luzon.
On Thursday, the LPA was estimated to be over 1,700 kilometers east of Catarman, Northern Samar. Pagasa said the weather disturbance has no direct effect on the country yet.
Saludes said that with the northeast monsoon—locally known as “amihan”—prevailing over Northern Luzon, small vessels are advised against venturing out to sea.–With Frances Mangosing, INQUIRER.net
