37 hurt as bus slams into mango tree in La Union

Bauang, La Union mapSAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Philippines—At least 37 people were hurt on Thursday, when an Abra-bound bus slammed into a mango tree along the national road in Bauang town, La Union province.

The victims, who were aboard an MVE bus that came from Baguio City, were taken to the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center in nearby San Fernando City.

Chief Insp. Benjamin Diagan, acting police chief of Bauang, said the bus driver, Henry Bugnay, 46, lost control of the bus after its steering wheel locked. He said the bus swerved and hit the tree.
