MANILA, Philippines―Former health secretary Juan Flavier died Thursday of multiple organ failure due to pneumonia, Radyo Inquirer 990AM reported Thursday. He was 79.

Roby Alampay, son-in-law of Flavier, said in a television interview that the former health secretary died of complications of pneumonia at 3:55 p.m.

Flavier had been confined at the National Kidney Transplant Institute’s intensive care unit since September 11, Alampay said.
The former health secretary was known for his “Let’s DOH it” campaign slogan. He served as a senator for two terms — from 1995 to 2007.

Details about the wake have yet to be announced.

“One thing the family does want to convey is that we would discourage for the sending of flowers. We will announce a charity later on. We would rather encourage people to donate in Sen. Juan Flavier’s name,” Alampay said.
