MANILA, Philippines— The University of Santo Tomas (UST) announced Tuesday the suspension of classes from Oct. 30 to Nov. 3 in observance of the annual All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.
“In order to allow the Thomasian community to spend more time with their families and loved ones in the observance of the traditional ‘Undas’ (All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day) on Nov. 1 to 2, 2014, there will be no classes from Oct. 30 to Nov. 3, 2014,” UST said in an advisory posted on its official Facebook page said.
Classes will resume on Nov. 4 (Tuesday), it added.
Malacañang has said that Oct.31 is not among the regular holidays and special nonworking holidays.
It said only November 1 (Saturday) was listed as special nonworking holiday in celebration of All Saints’ Day under Proclamation no. 655 signed by President Benigno Aquino III.
The Palace, however, said it is up to private companies to decide if they would allow their employees to work half-day or suspend operations.
