MANILA, Philippines—Sorry, but Oct. 31, 2014 is not a holiday.
“October 31 is a regular working day,” Communications Secretary Herminio “Sonny” Coloma Jr. said over Radyo ng Bayan on Sunday.
He said October 31 (Friday) was not announced among regular holidays and special nonworking holidays.
Under Proclamation no. 655, only November 1 (Saturday) was listed as special nonworking holiday in celebration of All Saints’ Day.
Many employees and students were hoping for a long weekend starting Friday.
However, Coloma said it is up to private sector companies to decide if they will allow their employees to work half-day.
“Nasa kanila na po ‘yon. Basta ang tinutukoy po natin ay hindi po ‘yon naideklarang holiday,” he said.
(It is up to them. What we just said is that it was not declared as holiday.)
