Today, Oct. 27, is the 38th death anniversary of former Chief Justice Jose Yulo, the only chief magistrate who was not appointed by a president. Yulo refused to serve as head of government under the Japanese occupation. He served as Chief Justice from 1942 to 1944. He died in 1976 at the age of 82.–Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
