Dr. Marlon Tabligan, acting chief of hospital of the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH), said the cause of death was respiratory failure secondary to perinatal asphyxia.
But he said the girls named Mary and Angel Banguiran had not been doing well since they were transferred to CLMMRH on Wednesday.
Tabligan said that based on the findings of their pediatric surgeons, it was impossible to separate the twins because they had only one upper chamber in their heart and one liver.
Maricel Abadilla Banguiran 31, and a resident of Barangay Lalong, Calatrava town, gave birth through normal delivery to conjoined twins at 8:10 a.m. on Wednesday Calatrava District Hospital in Calatrava town, Negros Occidental.
Dr. Gabby Penacuba-Palacios, CDH chief of hospital who attended the birth of the twins, said the girls weighed four kilograms during birth.
She said their mother was rushed to the hospital about 7:50 a.m. when she was in labor.
The twins were transferred to the CLMMRH, accompanied by their father Felipe Banguiran, 31, a farmer. Maricel was discharged from the Calatrava District Hospital on Thursday.
