/ 01:33 AM October 24, 2014

Today, Oct. 24, is the 157th birth anniversary of patriot and artist Juan Luna. Considered one of the greatest Filipino artists, he received a gold medal from the National Exposition of Fine Arts Madrid in 1884 for “Spoliarium” and a gold medal at the Barcelona Exposition in 1888 for “La Batalla de Lepanto.” A street in Binondo, Manila, is named in his honor. Luna died on Dec. 7, 1899. Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
