MANILA, Philippines—We do not tolerate lies.

This was Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s response when asked if the Senate blue ribbon sub-committee was protecting some witnesses who are allegedly instrumental in tarnishing the reputation of Vice President Jejomar Binay.

Trillanes said that the committee will not grill “objective” witnesses and will not tolerate lies allegedly spun by defenders of the vice president.

“Those witnesses who are objective and tell the truth, why will you question them? Most of the witnesses who defend him [Binay] are spreading lies when they testify at the Senate. We will not tolerate that. I want to show our countrymen that we do not accept their lies. We need to unmask them,” Trillanes said in an interview over Radyo Inquirer 990 AM.

Trillanes added that the Senate sub-committee proved that it is fair when it permitted UNA secretary general and Binay spokesperson Attorney JV Bautista to speak at Wednesday’s Senate hearing.

The senator said that instead of explaining what their camp knew about “Oplan Stop Nognog 2016,”Bautista chose to “waste” their time.

“We gave him space. He wasted our time. He directed crude remarks against us,” Trillanes added.
