MANILA, Philippines—The anti-illegal drugs unit of the Philippine National Police seized on Thursday P8 million worth of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) from four men believed to be members of an emerging drug group in Metro Manila and Calabarzon region.
Four kilos of high grade shabu stored in a cooler were confiscated by the police from the suspected drug peddlers in a buy-bust operation near the Heritage Park on Bayani Road, Western Bicutan, Taguig City.
The arrested suspects were Larex Pepino, 35; Jhay-Ar Radin, 25; and Nelson Conarco, 20; all of Las Piñas City, and Jayberne Ruiras, 33 of Quezon City.
Chief Inspector Roque Merdegia, Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force (AIDSOTF), said in an interview that Pepino sold for P500,000 to a police poseur-buyer 400 grams of shabu.
Merdegia said Pepino was hesitant at first to meet with the buyer, saying he preferred a bank-to-bank transaction.
“But he was convinced by the operative to meet in person. Maybe they needed money that night,” he said.
Merdegia said the suspects were onboard a brand new Nissan Almera with conduction sticker KD 2891 before the arrest.
While Pepino has several pending drug cases based on police records there were no drug complaints against Pepino’s accomplices.
