MANILA, Philippines—United Nationalist Alliance interim president Congressman Toby Tiangco said Thursday that the planned debate between Vice President Jejomar Binay and Senator Antonio Trillanes IV is going to be pointless because the senator is a “liar.”
In an interview over Radyo Inquirer 990 AM, Tiangco said that although he has expressed his reservation on the conduct of the debate, he said that he is confident that the vice president will prove his innocence to the public.
“Wala naman akong worry doon sa debate. Ang sinasabi ko lang, paano ka makikipagadebate doon sa isang tao na hindi nagsasabi ng totoo? Walang pupuntahan ‘yung debate na ‘yun. I am confident na mapapatunayan ni VP [Binay] sa taumbayan na siya ang tama dito,” Tiangco said.
(I am not worried about the debate. All I am saying is how can you debate with a liar? That debate is pointless. I am confident that VP Binay will prove that he is right.)
He added that the public should not even listen to what Trillanes has to say.
“Bakit pa bibigyan ng pagkakataon si Senator Trillanes? Why will you honor what he is saying?” Tiangco added.

Trillanes earlier accepted the vice president’s challenge to the one-on-one debate.
