Cops rescue kidnapped boy, nab suspects

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Philippines—Police have rescued a 12-year-old boy, who was kidnapped in Tarlac province and whose abductors asked for P10 million in ransom.

The boy was recovered in Barangay Gugo of Samal town in Bataan province.

Police also arrested Alvin Samar, 33, the supposed leader of the group, and Freddie Aguilar, 29.

The boy was abducted by the men as he was being driven to school by his mother in Barangay Sto. Cristo in Concepcion town.

The boy’s father is a businessman in Tarlac.

The kidnappers contacted the family for the ransom and offered to reduce payments to P10 million, but no ransom was paid, the police said.

The boy was recovered by a police quick response team. Samar and Aguilar are being held at the regional police headquarters in Camp Olivas in this Pampanga capital to face a kidnap-for-ransom charge. Tonette Orejas, Inquirer Central Luzon
