LOS BAÑOS,Laguna—The University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) promised to extend counseling services and legal assistance to one of its female students who recently fell victim to a sexual assault.

UPLB Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs Enrique Tolentino Jr. said the victim, a 17-year-old student, was to undergo medical checkup at the university’s health facility on Friday.

“The guidance counselor who talked to her earlier said she seems strong but of course, we cannot overly assume that,” Tolentino said in a phone interview.

Aside from counseling, Tolentino said the university, through its legal department, would help the family send to jail the suspect, Jose “Joey” Montecillo, 26, a tricycle driver.

Montecillo, a resident of Barangay Putho-Tuntungin here, was arrested around 1 a.m. on Friday in Calauan town, Laguna province.
