Binay looks to overcoming allegations, ‘fighting Goliaths’
MANILA, Philippines–Vice President Jejomar Binay is confident that he would overcome the corruption allegations being hurled against him as he saw himself “fighting Goliaths” in the bigger arena.
“I have reason to be happy. After weeks of grueling political battle with issues not my own, I am home at last,” Binay said when he spoke before the awarding ceremony for the Ten Outstanding Boys Scouts (TOBS) held at the PICC in Pasay City on Friday.
A copy of the speech was later furnished to reporters through email.
“Today, my fellow Scouts and guests, I am leaving politics behind, even for a moment, to escape the drudgery of political tirades let flown abroad by entities desperately trying to pull me and my family down. I hope that this would not affect your trust in me,” he said.
Binay did not elaborate but during the ongoing hearings of the Senate blue ribbon subcommittee, he and his family have been accused of receiving kickbacks when he was still the mayor of Makati City.

He said he expects “more political fireworks and mud on my face in the days to come.”
“But don’t worry, my friends. When you see me in this uniform, I am your brother Scout with the innocence of a boy who finds joy in the left handshake. No politics please,” he added.
