DOJ starts getting info on graft claims vs Binay

MANILA, Philippines–The Department of Justice (DOJ) has started gathering information on the alleged corruption allegations hurled against Vice President Jejomar Binay.
Justice Secretary Leila De Lima on Thursday met with former Makati vice mayor Ernesto Mercado and two other witnesses at the DOJ.
De Lima and the witnesses held a close door meeting and refused to disclose what transpired during the meeting.
De Lima’s meeting with the witnesses was the start of the DOJ investigation regarding the corruption allegations against Binay.
Mercado has accused Binay of pocketing kickbacks from the alleged overpriced Makati car park building when he was still the city mayor.
The Vice President was also accused of not declaring some of his properties in his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN).
The Senate blue ribbon committee has been conducting inquiry into the alleged overpriced building but Binay said all the claims against him were lies and that the senators investigating the case simply want to railroad his 2016 presidential bid.
