MANILA, Philippines – “It’s hard to put a good man down,” was how Vice President Jejomar Binay’s camp reacted to the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey showing that amid a dip in his ratings, majority of Filipinos remained satisfied with his performance.
While the survey showed a 15-point drop in his public net satisfaction rating from 67 percent to 52 percent, 70 percent of the 1, 200 respondents polled from September 26 to 29 were still satisfied with the Vice President, his spokesman, Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla, pointed out on Monday.
“Vice President Jojo Binay is happy and thankful that 70 percent of Filipinos are satisfied with his performance,” Remulla said in a statement.
“The numbers are surprising. Despite the toxic atmosphere brought about by the kangaroo court of the Senate and the incessant attacks by political detractors, he still outperforms the rest of the field. It really goes to show that it’s hard to put a good man down,” he said.
“It makes him more committed to bring the issues directly to the people and perform his duties,” Remulla added.
The spokesman was referring to the ongoing Senate inquiry into the allegedly anomalous construction of the Makati City hall 2 parking building involving Binay when he was still the city mayor.
But the Senate probe has also expanded to the Vice President’s other alleged irregularities and unexplained wealth.
