MANILA, Philippines—Super Typhoon “Ompong” (international name: Vongfong) left the Philippine area of responsibility on Saturday afternoon, the state weather bureau said.
In its latest advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Ompong left the country at 1 p.m. and headed towards Japan.
Ompong was the strongest typhoon to enter the Philippines this year but did not make landfall.
Pagasa in an advisory also said that as of posting time, a thunderstorm was affecting Marikina, Quezon City, Rizal and portions of Zambales.
Moderate to occasional heavy rains were expected to lash Antique, Iloilo, Capiz, Northern Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, it added.
The weather bureau advised the public to take precautionary measures against heavy rains, strong winds, lightning and possible flashfloods.
