MANILA, Philippines — Taal Volcano recorded five volcanic earthquakes in the past 24 hours, but state volcanologists said there is nothing to worry about for now.

“There is nothing to worry about. It’s still under Alert Level 1,” Eric Arconado, science research specialist at Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, said on Wednesday.

Alert Level 1 means hazardous eruption is not imminent but the main crater should be strictly off limits.

It is during Alert Level 2 when selective evacuation is made.

The volcano, located in the middle of a lake, is also a tourist destination in Batangas.

Arconado said that the volcanic quakes are not the only indicators of an eruption. There are also other factors such as geological parameters and geophysics.

The activities in Taal have also nothing to do with Mayon Volcano, Arconado said.
