The University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons are dead serious in their quest to redeem themselves after their disastrous performance in the UAAP last year.
They showed this burning intention again yesterday as they took the fight to the Lion Tiger Aerosols-University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers and prevailed, 82-61, in the semifinal round of the 5th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) Partners Cup at the Cebu Coliseum.
The win was the Maroons’ second in a row while dropping their victims to 1-1 (win-loss).
UP had a down season last year to say the least as they finished the UAAP season without a single win in 14 matches.
However, with a revamped roster and a brand-new head coach in Ricky Dandan, the Maroons appear poised to rise and the Green Lancers got a taste of that.
Mike Gamboa and Moriha Gingerich topped the Maroons with 12 points each while Jett Manuel added 10.
Chris Perolino led the Green Lancers with 12.
Lion Tiger logged its first win in the semifinals by beating the Rose Aquarius-University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, 68-56, in the main game last Sunday.
The win snapped the Panther’s five-game winning streak. Harold Cincoflores and Rene Saycon each had 15 for UV.
