MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Tuesday said it was happy with the results of Pulse Asia’s latest survey showing President Benigno Aquino III’s steady approval and trust ratings.

“We are gratified that as noted by Pulse Asia and I quote: ‘Most Filipinos remain appreciative of the President’s performance;’ and that he continues to enjoy majority performance approval and trust ratings as he has done so for the past 17 quarterly surveys,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said during a televised briefing.

The poll showed that the Filipinos’ trust and approval of Aquino remained almost the same, dropping only by a point (from 56 percent in June to 55 percent in September) in terms of approval and increasing by another point in terms of trust (from 53 percent in June to 54 percent in September).

Coloma said the results indicated “broad support” from the public.

He explained that while there was no significant change, it meant that the level of performance and “level of big trust” remained “steady.”

However, he refused to comment on Vice President Jejomar Binay’s sliding ratings. Binay’s trust and approval ratings dropped 15 points each. However, of the top five national officials, Binay had the highest ratings, with 66 percent saying they approved of him and 64 percent saying he is trustworthy.

“Our focus is on the performance approval and trust ratings of the President,” Coloma said, adding that it would be better to get the opinion of professional pollsters instead.
