Thunderstorm, rains hit Metro Manila; flooded streets reported

MANILA, Philippines – Afternoon rains during a thunderstorm hit Metro Manila Tuesday and flooded some streets in the National Capital Region.

In its thunderstorm bulletin issued at 3:25 p.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the thunderstorm developed over Metro Manila (Manila, Mandaluyong, Marikina and Quezon City), and Zambales (San Antonio and Subic).

Pagasa said the thunderstorm might persist for two hours.

The rains have already flooded some streets in the metropolis.

According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and social media posts from netizens the areas flooded were:

Pasong Tamo tunnel in Makati City

Eastbound lane of Quezon Avenue‎, Timog City (knee deep – not passable to vehicles)

Eastbound lane of Quezon Avenue, Scout Santiago‎ (not passable to light vehicles

Buendia-Gil Puyat in Makati City (gutter to knee deep)

Boni Avenue in Maysilo (waist deep)

Westbound and eastbound lane of Biak na Bato Quezon Avenue (passable to all types of vehicles)

Elliptical road near Quezon City Hall (gutter deep but passable)

Quezon Avenue corner G. Araneta Avenue westbound lane tunnel (gutter deep but passable)

Northbound and southbound lane of EDSA Shaw‎ Boulevard tunnel (gutter deep but passable)

EDSA Orense – outer northbound lane (gutter deep but passable)

EDSA Santolan – northbound lane of Service Ro‎ad, EDSA P. Tuazon – northbound tunnel (gutter deep but passable)

EDSA Boni Avenue tunnel (gutter deep but passable)

According to Pagasa, a thunderstorm is expected to develop over Nueva Ecija, Batangas, Quezon, and the remaining parts of Zambales in the next two hours.
